Invest in the future of HEO training at VIU

At Vancouver Island University's 40-acre Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO) Training Site, students get a hands-on education that prepares them for a high-demand career. Our instructors work one-on-one with students, sharing their knowledge of excavating, land clearing, grading and road-building.

Help VIU meet a growing demand

We need your help. To support the growing demand for HEO training, we need to raise $625,000 to address certain infrastructure challenges:

  • removing our diesel generator
  • installing BC Hydro poles and lines
  • establishing more reliable VIU campus Wi-Fi
  • connecting to running water and sewer system
  • upgrading aging modular classrooms

Help VIU students continue to excel

The future is bright for HEOs on Vancouver Island, with 620 job openings expected over the short term. In the next decade, BC will need 3,630 HEO professionals.

Your investment in HEO training at VIU helps ensure 60+ students a year continue to get a top-tier education and industry experience. Together, we can build a skilled workforce. We can meet industry needs and drive long-term success. Your generosity also helps strengthen relationships between VIU and the community through:

  • community events like Heavy Metal Rocks, which enhance student-industry connections
  • long-term partnerships with Inland Kenworth and Spatial Technologies
  • potential partnerships with Tla'amin Nation and North Island College
