Around the age of ten, Marc Petreman developed his love of badminton and he spent his life passionately

Marc Petreman
involved in the sport, winning many awards during his school and college years, including being named male athlete of the year.

He eventually began coaching students at both Capilano College in North Vancouver, and Langara College in Vancouver. His years coaching Langara earned him the title of Canadian Coach of the Year twice. His personal satisfaction came from watching his players play and win at the game.

Badminton was the main but not the only passion in his life. He loved music, spending one night a week jamming with his musical buddies and gardening also became one of his great devotions. He loved to experiment with exotic plants, growing virtually everything from seeds. Marc also ran a very successful building business for many years.

Marc passed away in the summer of 2021 and his family and friends have created the Marc Petreman Memorial Award at VIU to honour his memory. This $1000 award will be given out annually to a VIU student member of the badminton team.
