Vancouver Island University (VIU) and SmartSAVER have joined in an innovative partnership to raise awareness about the value of saving for education. This initiative will facilitate access to Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) and Canada Learning Bond (CLB) information for vulnerable populations within our region of Vancouver Island and Coastal BC. 

VIU aims to raise $50,000 to support 100 kids in our community. For every $500 raised, $700 will go into their RESP through federal matching.

This pilot project addresses the following themes

  • Empower a future generation of leaders and changemakers

  • Support the development of a “Post-Secondary Bound Identity” for children who face barriers to attending post-secondary

  • Support for Indigenous youth and non-traditional learners accessing university

  • Support families in developing financial literacy around saving for their children's post-secondary and their future

VIU aims to reduce the barriers to education by demonstrating leadership both in BC and across Canada. We hope to make a measurable difference in the educational expectations for BC’s youth.
